Quick Sausage Risotto from Canadian Living - 4 Stars

There are three words a hungry man wants to hear, and "I love you" are not those words. Those three words are...

Sausage and Tortellini.

I'll post some lovely little recipes shortly containing both of those ingrediants. Right now, however, I would like to deliver the quickest and most satisfying hungry man Sausage Risotto you will ever find. You really can't go wrong with this recipe. Sausage, zucchini, tomato, parmesan - quick pour, no wine, no fuss. Say goodbye to standing over your risotto, dropping 1/4 c. of liquid in at a time and the nonsensical stirring. This really is a great supper main and an AMAZING leftover dish, even served cold.

Less work for the hungry man's wife = a good day.

Salute,
Hungry Man's Wife

Pot-Roast Meatloaf by Jamie Oliver - 4 Stars

I am working my way through Jamie Oliver's Jamie's Food Revolution.
(Available in soft cover at Costco for 1/2 price, $14.95)
I have made a few tasty dishes and will add them to my blog shortly.

Tonight, I made the Pot-Roast Meatloaf. There are a few steps involved, but overall it was very simple and quick to make. It took about 45 minutes, although it could be done in less.  My one mistake is that the recipe calls for 2 x 14 oz
cans of diced tomatoes. Being the "attention to detail" girl that I am, I bought
and used 2 x 28 oz cans of diced tomatoes. Thus the bacon did not crisp up as it
should have and the meatloaf did not brown. It was however, the best meatloaf I have had so far. The smoked paprika has a great presence and the consistancy of the loaf is excellent. There is nothing worse than a soggy hunk of meat. It would have been nice to get a crunch of bacon, had I followed the recipe properly. I would have also used a bit more chili pepper for a stronger bite. I would make this again any day. It was a hit with my hungry man and even my 12 year old "lil' sis", Breanna, loved it. It would work great as leftovers, the tomato sauce would keep it from drying out. It does not lack in flavour either.

Salute,
Hungry Man's Wife

Hungry Man's Wife

My name is Liz and I am a hungry man's wife.

Growing up as the only girl in a family of four kids,
I am no stranger to the bottomless pit we like to call a man's stomach.

Married to a very gorgeous construction worker, I am faced with the daily
challenge of feeding my very hungry, very high-metabolised husband.
Not only is there the matter of a satisfying dinner, we mustn't forget the
all important leftovers for lunch. After all, a man needs his fuel.

In the past three years, I have gained two things:

1) Body fat, a by-product of a hungry man's meal. And
B) A few great recipes, but by all means not enough for a lifetime.

While I will be forever pining away for my once, ridiculously good-looking, body,
I would like to attend to the latter, as the potential for success would seem more probable. I am always rummaging through cookbooks, picking my lovely friend's brains and scouring the internet for a meal that is healthy, tasty, filling and easy enough to prepare with a baby on my hip. In this blog I plan to share recipes and experiences I come by on my quest for a decent hungry man's meal. As we all know the way to a man's heart is through his stomach and a fed husband is a happy husband...much like my 10 month old daughter, come to think of it.

Salute,
A Hungry Man's Wife
